Aberdare Festival

25 May 2019

Some pictures of when the Rhondda Cynon Taf Scout District Events Team attended the Aberdare Festival this Bank Holiday Weekend to raise the awareness of Scouting in RCT and to recruit new Adult Leaders into the Movement.

The Team met some of the 7,800 people who visited Aberdare Park to enjoy the atmosphere, try the food (we did!) and have a pleasant afternoon in the sun.  We spoke to many local people about volunteering opportunities that Scouting has to offer in RCT and in general.

One local resident told us, "I had no idea that there was a Scout Group so close by..  Another said, "I was a Cub Scout when I was younger, it gave me the independence and confidence which I really needed in later life.

RCT's Deputy District Commissioner for Programme and Development, Mark Casling explained, "There are thousands of Young People all over the UK who are on waiting lists to join Scouts, the only thing preventing them is a lack of Adult Volunteers.  We can't afford to wait until the Scout Leaders of the future walk into the Scout Hall, we need to go out and engage with the public at events like this.  Over the next few months the Events Team will be at School Summer Fairs and other Events throughout RCT, including the Big Welsh Bite in August. So come and talk to us about what Scouting has to offer".

A big thank you to all those involved.
